Independence Day

Hello Purple Room Families,

For those of you that have not heard, we decided on a class pet. We will be getting a turtle! Our students have worked very hard to make this decision. We made a list of the things that are most important in a pet. We talked about each individual pet and why they would or would not make a great classroom pet. All in all the votes were in favor of having a turtle join our classroom! Because attendance is sparse next week due to the holiday, I would like to plan a field trip for the following week to pick up our pet. Keep an eye out for a permission slip as well as a chaperone sign-up list.

Next week, we will be primarily focusing on Independence Day. We will discuss what it is and why it is important. We will have fun treats as well as crafts throughout the week. As per request of the students, Monday will be a costume day. Our students have been really interested in dress-up lately and so we have decided to wear costumes to school. Although it does not have anything to do with our weekly theme, we thought it would be fun!

Wednesday we would like to have a picnic with the kids to celebrate the 4th of July. We do know that BBQs are not what Independence Day is about, but it is a fun way to celebrate. We will be cooking hamburgers and hotdogs for the kids and will need help from you for side dishes. I will have a sign up sheet Monday. The list will be small, but your donations will really help! Also, a reminder that Creative Minds is closed Thursday July 4th for Independence Day. We will be open the following day, Friday the 5th, but are trying get a head count of how many students we should expect on Friday. If you have not already filled out the survey for the 5th in our sign-in binder, please do so next week. So far, the day appears that it will be very light in attendance. Because of this, we will a fun day with games and baking.

We are looking forward to next week! I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Pondering a Pet

Hello Purple Room Families,

Next week, we plan to continue our discussion about a possible class pet. The students have been really interested in doing research on these animals and discussing which pet would be best for Purple Room. We have a few more animals to discuss and will hopefully make an educated decision about which pet we should purchase. My hope is that we an go to PETCO the following week (the first week of July) to pick up our new friend. Be on the lookout for release forms and chaperone sign up sheets. Next Friday we will have a water day. Fun! Please bring shoes that can get wet, a towel, and a change of clothes. Also, please don't forget to send your child to school with sunscreen already on.

Next Thursday is Teacher Tiffany's last day at Creative Minds so we will be having a pizza party to celebrate her. We will be ordering cheese pizza for our students. If this is not something you would like your child to partake in, please bring a lunch from home, otherwise, lunch will be provided Thursday (6/27).

For those of you asking, sharing will continue to be on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please encourage your child to bring a share that has not been shared with our class before. I also encourage students to find unique things to share; preferably something that we don't already have in our classroom. For example, a toy car may not be the best share seeing that we have lots of those in class. A picture or a book are always wonderful shares. Please challenge your child to think about what to bring as well as reason why they want to bring it other than the obvious answer of "I like it."

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Looking forward to next week!

Take care,
Shaina

Happy Father's Day

Hello Purple Room Families,

First off, Happy Father's Day to all of the wonderful Purple Room dads! I hope you are all enjoying your day!

Our students have really been interested in animals lately. A few weeks ago we went to PETCO and last week we had our petting zoo which sparked a lot of conversation about pets and farm animals. We have decided that we would like to take another trip to PETCO and pick out a class pet. This week we will be looking into the different types of pets that we can get for our classroom and discuss the ways in which we would need to care for those animals and hopefully decide on the type of animal we would like to get. Some of the animals the children seemed to really be interested in were: hermit crabs, rabbits, mice, hamsters, fish, turtles and birds. My hope is that our students will learn what great responsibility comes with having a pet. We will be doing crafts and activities based on these animals and our classroom discussion.

Secondly, this Wednesday (6/19) and Thursday (6/20) we will be celebrating Father's Day. Dads, please stop by between 8:00am and 10:30am to enjoy breakfast on us!
Lastly, Friday will be a day full of fun! It was requested by a few of our students that we have a dance party in our pajamas! So, kids, don't forget to wear your pajamas and bring your best dance moves!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday evening!

Warm regards,
Shaina

All About Me

Hello Purple Room Families,

For those of you that did not hear, we will be continuing our "All About Me" theme this week. The class really seems to be enjoying it. We have talked about our families, what we look like (how are we different? same?) as well as our feelings and how we express them. We will continue sharing family photos this week if your child did not already do so last week. If your child did share his/her family photo then shares will be as usual on Wednesday and Friday. We have attached our family photos to our class family tree. The photos will be sent home at the end of this week.

Tomorrow we will begin discussing the family activity that was sent home last week. We will be sharing them with the class in hopes of learning more about one another and where our families are from and what types of cultural traditions we each practice. We will continue to play games and sing songs to promote self esteem and confidence. I also have some fun crafts planned to help each child express their individuality.

We are looking forward to the week!

Warm regards,
Shaina
