Multiple interests!!!

This week we kept up with our pumpkin fun by decorating our own pumpkins and making them sit on the fence! We also worked on our big classroom pumpkin that we are thinking of exploring for the entire month (paint it, glue it, carve it, perhaps wait for it to rot and later talk about the stages.)

We made our own pumpkin 'S'eeds counting game and used our baked pumpkin seeds to help us count.

We are now mailing cards to parents in their parent pockets with a personal message. Also, everyone in the classroom was making and mailing 'Get well soon' cards for their friends who were out sick. How thoughtful and kind!

Decorating 'Birthday Elephants' has been wonderful and funny. They all were excited to put themselves (their pictures) on the elephant back ride.

This week Richa got us some cardboard pipes and to my surprise they have figured out multiple ways of using that material. Some made towers and balanced blocks, some used them as robot hands, as telephones talking to each other placing one end on the ear and asking the other friend to talk, made a swimming pool and splashed and swam, made the longest and biggest (in their words) drainage system and fixed it underground using tools tools explaining me how their drainage system works , while some used them as rolling cars.. I can't wait to see what else they do with it now! Should say, they have Creative Minds ;-)

This week we also introduced the letter 'S'. The kids are getting sooo much better at listing out words. Every week the list grows and grows.

We kept practicing the letter pattern similar to other weeks by using numbers to write the letter 'S', and making 'S' collages using materials that begin with the letter 's', and all the children add to their thoughts of what materials we can use. We used stickers, smilies, stars, stamps, silver sparkles, sea life stickers, etc. to decorate our collages!

While coming up with different 's' letter words we encountered the confusion of how 'c' sometimes sounds like 's' and visa versa. Words like 'cell phone', 'circle', and teacher 'Cecilia', were our discussion words during circle time. It was also fun to note how they connected the sound of one word with the other. For example, when one child said 'side', the other immediately said 'slide'. We added many such words on our list!

Making smoothies was super fun!!!

Slurping till the last drop!!!

This week they were into playing 'S'occer telling me each time that it begins with the letter 's' :-) They have all played like a team, passing and cheering for each other every time, as well as inviting friends to play and get on their teams.

We added fine sand on our light table and look at the art!. They also spoke about how sand feels soft, grainy, smooth and doesn't stay in your hands :-)

Rainbows!

Bug and spirals!

An octopus!

We caught a new spider and made his home with thoughtful planning (put stems so that he can climb up and make a web!).

Mr. 'S'un is looooooved by our class. So we decided to make our own Mr. and Ms. Sun!

Hope to see everyone next week all fit, healthy, and back on the run!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,
Rashida.
