May has been busy!

The month of may has been full of fun activities including baking, a Mother's Day breakfast, graduation, planting flowers as well as finishing up our work on the alphabet. We have completed the alphabet and had a ton of fun along the way. I'd like to share some photos with you from our busy month.

We planted class flowers! (sadly snails ate almost all of them!)

We made French toast kabobs! Yum!

We also made snickerdoodles! They were a hit!

We also had lots of games on graduation day!

Potpourri Week

Happy Sunday Purple Room Parents,

This week will be a little different due to Memorial Day and our graduation ceremony. Much of this week will be review. We will continue to review the alphabet; both upper case and lower case letters. We will be discussing the 5 basic shapes (circle, oval, triangle, square, rectangle) and the characteristics of these shapes as well as comparing them to find similarities and differences. We will also discuss primary and secondary colors as well as make our own color wheel. Lastly we will discuss the numbers 1-20. We will be working on counting and recognition of these numbers. Friday will be a day of fun and celebration. It will be filled with fun games and activities as well as our class potluck and graduation ceremony.

We still have openings for our potluck sign ups. Please sign your child up if you are able to contribute. Also, if you have not RSVP'd for our graduation ceremony this Friday, please do so. We hope you and your families can join us for our graduation ceremony. The Purple room has many surprises in store. Both the potluck sign up sheet and graduation RSVP form are found in our sign-in binder by the classroom door.

I'm looking forward to this week. Happy Memorial Day. I hope you enjoy a day with family and friends. See you Tuesday!

Warm regards,
Shaina

From A to Z!

Good afternoon Purple Room parents,

This week we will be ending our journey through the alphabet with the letter Z. We will be discussing words that start with z and words that have z in them. We will be making zucchini bread together, making zebra crafts, and talking about zoos and the different animals you can find at the zoo. We will also be reviewing letters A-Z and the sounds each letter makes.

We are still busy prepping for graduation. We have many surprises in store and hope that you all can make it to our graduation celebration. For those of you wondering, each child will be honored at graduation, not just simply those moving onto kindergarten. This year has been full of changes for the Purple Room and we want to acknowledge each child for their continuous hard work throughout all of those changes. In the front of our class sign in binder there is an RSVP form for graduation. Please don't forget to let us know if you will be coming to our graduation ceremony.

Lastly, we have been discussing the idea of doing a student potluck the day of graduation (May 31st). I will be making a sign up sheet for that as well. We are so excited for the next few weeks. We have so many fun things in store.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. See you tomorrow!

Take care,
Shaina

Happy Mother's Day!

Good afternoon Purple Room Parents,

First off, Happy Mother's Day to all of you moms! I hope you have a wonderful and blessed day.

Secondly, Teacher Cecilia, Teacher Aimee, and I would like to say a huge thank you for all of your thoughtfulness and generosity for teacher appreciation week! We are so blessed to be a part of the Creative Minds team. Thank you for making us feel so appreciated and loved. :)

This week we will be discussing the letter's X and Y. We will be brainstorming about words that have the letter x in them (i.e. fox, box, mix, ox, etc.) We will also talk about x-rays and our skeletal system. We will have fun crafts based on the letter x such as making our own x-ray of our hands. For the letter Y we will be discussing the different sounds the letter can make. Form instance, the y in yarn sounds very different from that in party. We will discuss words like play, many, and yo-yo and the sound y makes in those words. We will also be on the lookout for things that are yellow. We will doing crafts with yarn and having fun with the color yellow.

Also, graduation is coming up in just a few short weeks. Invitations were sent out in parent pockets last Friday. Please pick yours up if you have not done so. We hope you can all make it! The class will be working hard over the next few weeks to make graduation fun and full of surprises.

Enjoy the rest of this beautiful Sunday!

Volcanoes and Vegetables

Hello Purple Room Parents,

Since summer and graduation are fast approaching, we will be focusing on 2 letters a week for the next few weeks to make sure we get through all of them. This next week we will be talking about letters V and W. For the letter V we will be talking about volcanoes as requested by the students. We will be doing an experiment and some research on active and inactive volcanoes around the world.

Another topic that I find important is vegetables. We will discuss the benefits of eating them and the importance of doing so. We will also be having some healthy snacks to encourage healthy eating choices.

For the letter W we will discuss the weather and how it all works. We will also talk about the seasons of the year and how weather plays a big role in the seasons. We will be making crafts based on weather and seasons. We will then discuss the world and the continents within the world. We will talk more closely about North America and where we are in the world. Tentatively, Friday will be another Water Day. I will let you know as the day gets closer.

Also, a quick reminder that our Mother's Day celebration is this coming Wednesday and Thursday (5/8 and 5/9) from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. We hope to see you all there.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Warm regards,
Shaina
