Little Red Riding Hood

Good afternoon Purple Room parents,

We will be continuing our unit on fairy tales through next week. The kids have been having loads of fun with this theme. They would like to put on a performance for all of the parents next Tuesday at 10:45am. They will be performing their version of Little Red Riding Hood. It will not be scripted, rather it will be their interpretation of the classic story. I hope you each can come and see their imagination at work. Please meet in the Purple Room promptly at 10:45am.

On a different note, next Wednesday will be Gabriel's last day. His parents have graciously offered to bring pizza and cupcakes for the Purple Room. They would like to extend the invitation to those children that do not normally attend on Wednesdays. If this is your child, please let me know if he or she is coming so I can inform Richa and Jennifer. So, please remember that lunch will be provided for your child Wednesday July 31st. If you would like your child to eat their own lunch, please send a lunch to school as usual. I hope each child can come to celebrate Gabriel and give him big hugs and warm wishes as he moves onto his new school.

Also, a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL THURSDAY 8/1 or FRIDAY 8/2. These two days are teacher in-service days.

Enjoy your weekend! See you next week!

Fairy Tales

Hello Purple Room Families,

Our students have been very interested in dress-up the last few weeks. It has been wonderful seeing their imagination grow as they play kings, queens, firefighters, princesses, etc. This week we will be discussing fairy tales. We will read classic fairy tales such as Snow White, Littke Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Bean Stock, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will look at each story and discuss the problem in the story as well as the solution. We will also try and decide what the author was trying to teach us. Fairy tales often have wondeful lessons for children.

I have many fun crafts and group activities planned for this week. And, of course, we will play dress-up.

We are looking into getting some new items for our dress-up area. If you or anyone you know have old costumes that you would like to donate, please talk to Cecilia or me. We, and the kids, would love to take them!

Also, a reminder that this Wednesday July 24th, we will be going on our field trip to PETCO. Please turn in your permission slip if you have not already done so. We are also in need of chaperones. If you can come, please sign-up on the form inside our sign-in/sign-out binder. We will plan to leave at 10:15am and should be back between 11:30am and 12 noon.

Looking forward to a great week!

Warm regards,
Shaina

Wonderful Water

Hello Purple Room Families,

As most of you may know, Purple Room has decided to get a mouse as a class pet. Our field trip to PETCO will be Wednesday July 24th from 10:15 am to 12 noon. A chaperone list will be put out tomorrow as well as the permission slips.

This week we will be discussing water. We will discuss oceans, rivers, lakes and ponds and their importance. We will also discuss the water cycle, where our drinking water comes from, and ways to conserve water. We will discuss underwater life as well. Friday July 19th will be a water day! Please bring a towel, a change of clothes, shoes that can get wet. Please also send your child to school with sunscreen already applied.

Within the next few weeks I would also like to plan a field trip to a near by park. Details to come.

I hope you all have enjoyed your weekend!

Warm regards,
Shaina

Disability Awareness

Hello Purple Room Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day.

Next week we will be discussing disabilities. It is so incredibly important that children learn about the differences that some people may have. People may look or act different but they should not be treated any differently than me or you. I would like to talk about some common disabilities that your child might encounter in the future hopes that your child will be understanding and loving toward others with disabilities. I am hoping to have a special guest come in and speak with the kids. I encourage you to talk with your kids as well at home.

As some of you may know we will unfortunately not be able to get a turtle. Upon researching further, licensing will not allow a turtle in the classroom because they carry salmonella. Although the children would not be holding the turtle, it is still against licensing. Instead, we will be getting a mouse, which was the Purple Room's second choice. Due to this hang up, we will not be able to make it to PETCO next week. We will be going the following week. I will be sending home a permission slip next week.

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend. See you next week!

Take care,
Shaina
