Bike week and Ice cream Social!

Hello Purple Room Families,

This week was absolutely satisfying since not just one day or two, but children got to keep and ride their bikes all week long. It was fascinating to see some children come in the premises looking like bikers and showing off their gloves and helmets and bikes. It sure meant a lot to them and their self image.

We began by introducing the different parts of the bike and observed how each bike had majority of those in common. We also spoke about the safety before we hit the premises...

Getting ready to hit the road :)

Following all the road rules including speed, and personal safety...

The entire week our biking schedule was set where we set off at 11:00am and enjoyed riding for approximately an hour with water and at times some snack outside under our cool off canopy :c)

Other activities/ interests during the week....

PIN COLLAGE...

We used push pins, bulletins board pins, paper pins to push pin materials like color tissue paper, foil, balloons onto a foam board. We spoke about being safe and how pins are sharp and can cut through. Will all that said the project was a success and children were super glad to use adult stuff and were proud to use it carefully!

'Little', but 'Big' things make them feel so competent and creates an adult like self-image to experience. That's the beauty of Reggio :)

ART ON A BIIIIIIIIIG CANVAS!!!
We set up paints, spare bottles, big brushes, bubble wraps, and children used them at their discretion.

C walking with bubble wrap shoes..hehehehheheehehe.
He said that he felt as if he was walking on a moon and was bouncy!!!

Children experiencing different ways to throw paint on canvas and see it smudge.

WRITING LETTERS ON ROCKS using Sharpies and connecting the letters to form our names!

STICKY COLLAGES AND THEIR STORIES...
Please cast your eyes on the dress up area wall to see their amazing masterpieces associated with their creative thoughts!!!

TAPE ART
Freinds made different patterns, used crayons to color, and ripped the tape off to see the track that the tape left behind. They said its just the same as when they taped.

MAKING ENGLISH MUFFIN PIZZAS and later enjoying them outdoors under our canopy.

NEW SENSORY EXPERIENCE WITH PINE PELLETS
D planting a flower pretending it to be soil :)

COMBINING SHAPES INTO IMAGES...

COLOR FUN WITH MILK, OIL, AND PRIMARY COLORS...

COLOR FUN WITH FELT AND WATER COLORS...
This art is now framed as 3D and will be there for the upcoming art sale exhibition :) Teachers have already bidded, but we saved that privilege for our parents :)

BOYS GOT TOO INVOLVED IN LACING :) They showed some amazing fine motor skills and eye hand cordination!

FROSTING CAKES AND CUPCAKES...
We used shaving cream and color to create the frosting bags and pretended to decorate our cakes like a baker :)

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM!

Ice cream social was a great fun gathering of preschool unit as a whole where children and parents of both the rooms got to spend time together which is sometimes hard with our busy lives. And at the same time we do need such small reasons to take off that load and say," I don't care about calories today ;)"

Thank you to all the parents for sending a variety of toppings that each one of us enjoyed thoroughly, and thank you to Creative Minds for giving children a variety of ice cream flavors to choose from!

Before the day when school closed for teachers in service day, was our one of the most favorites - pajama and pancake party.
Hahahaha I still feel like laughing before I write this. Friends decided to 'go green' and were determined to make the pancakes green. I really don't know where did that come from, but it was very earthy :)

L did an awesome comparison. When one side of the pancake was cooked and looked brown, he said that they look like mint ice scream sandwiches. And everyone agreed :) it's great to see them generalize one thing with the other. A good example of differences and similarities :)

During the teachers in service days, we reorganized our classroom and children greeted it with a smile and did not miss any changes. They said that they love it too. It is so much easy for them to now self access the materials and even self regulate with what and how much they need. They have been awesome with cleanup and they say that they want to keep our newly organized room looking new forever. It is amazing to see such skills develop!

Hope you all had a fun four day weekend.

Hugs,
Teacher Rashida.
