Red and Orange, petting zoo

Hello Purple Room Families,

Art is the heart of our classroom! This color week (red and orange) was a perfect to enjoy one. We worked on SUNSETS. We watched a few videos of sunsets and talked about the different colors we can see, talked about light and how it reflects, talked about horizons, and overall appreciated this beautiful sight of nature!

We gave them yellow and red on a thick cardboard. When friends blended the colors they made a neat orange in the middle while showing off some yellow and red as well...

Next we worked on the line of horizon which seemed black at the time of sunset (an observation we gathered through by looking at thr different sunset videos)...

Next we made our setting sun with chalk pastels and gave it a bright orange look on the outside...we spoke about the colors of the sun at the time of sunset - bright white, with a yellow tint...

We ended by adding other colors that we had seen in the nature videos - like purplish and pinkish tints, and some blue of the sky that peeks through. Friends used their fingers tried to blend it and make it look hazy...Artistic effects!

A glance at our proud art work!!!

We also made English muffin pizzas (red sauce and orange cheese). Friends pretended to eat the sun as they enjoyed their pizzas.

Petting Zoo...
During the petting zoo week, we got a new classroom pet! I bet you all must have seen her by now and experienced how real she looks :)

Yes, it's a pony. Friends were so excited to see how she moves, makes sounds, and responds to their voices. They gave baby dolls a ride on the pony and decorated the pony. They added flowers, necklaces, and even a royal dress. Finally she was named ""FLOWER!"

Friends, both boys and girls, took such great care of her. They brushed her, fed her, and entertained her. They all wanted to make a cubby for Flower and make her feel visible and welcome in the classroom.

Later during the week the petting zoo arrived...

Cruiser the turtle...

Henry the donkey...

Chickens...

Mary the goat, and bunnies!

All our children were so caring and gentle with the animals. We enjoyed petting each and every one!

During the week we also enjoyed playing with the grow balls...their slimy and transparent characteristics made them so interesting. Friends pretended they were deep blue oceans...

Dinosaurs!
Friends enjoyed combining blocks, magnatiles, and dinosaurs together and creating zoos, museums, and many other modern unique structures!

This summer we are going through a tough phase of our old friends leaving for kindergarten as well as are enjoying the company of some of our old friends coming back to visit us. We bid farewell to L and S and friends made the 'miss you' t-shirts for them and also took a pinky promise that they will come visit us wherever they have time :)

Keep seeing you around!

Hugs,
Teacher Rashida
