Water week - Combined with the warmth of the TeePee community!

Hello Purple Room Families,

Our water week started with the excitement of wearing water clothes and playing with the cool water but before we started, we had a discussion about the drought that we are currently facing. Many children already knew about it and we discussed ways we can make this water week fun as well as use very limited water. Together we came up with many ideas like playing for just a few minutes and saving water in the bathroom by opening half a tap. As a result, we decided to do one water activity each day. Monday we just played with mist water, Tuesday we opened a chair wash center, Wednesday we enjoyed playing with water and sand and we opened water tables and they enjoyed doing fishing, Thursday we opened water pools, and Friday we ended with water sprinklers. All the saved water from the pools and water tables was thoughtfully used to water the thirsty plants.

Feeling Cool in the Pool!!!

Chair washing and scrubbing...100% hand wash ;)

Crazy Caterpillar Sprinkler...

Fishing...

A is ducking his head in the pond trying to make bubbles like a fish...

Soaking wet friends wanting to dry their bodies with the heat of the teepee community fire...

A warming her hands...

Friend building with magnatiles besides the warmth of the fire!!!

During water week, we prepared underwater jello treats...
Friends added their Swedish fish to their pretend ocean cups...they poured the prepared jello liquid in it.

Some friends predicted that the fish will float while some said it will sink. For this project our fishes were heavy and so they sank in the jello liquid. R is checking the conclusion!

We enjoyed our treat outside the next day after the jello was set!

All gone, or rather we should say they 'INHALED IT'

During water week, our friend S turned four and celebrated it with treats for everyone!
Happy birthday S. Muah....we love you!

Handing out the treats and friends wishing her "Happy Birthday!"

Popsicle rocket time!

Our friend L was spending his last day with us. Thank you L for a healthy strawberry treat. We also read the book "The Very Hungry Bear and the Red Ripe Strawberry!' What a perfect match to our curriculum.

Good bye L. We wish you love and luck in all that you do! Visit us whenever you get a chance!

During the week, friends worked together to put a 3 dimensional collage together...it now beautifies our classroom on the purple wall!

We ended our week trying out and taste testing different stages of a tomato from Teacher Richa's garden!

We first began with a great discussion on whether a tomato is a fruit or vegetable...we even watched some child friendly educational videos and now friends were so sure that it is a FRUIT. However, we spoke about the use of it in curries and cooking just because of its taste. Friends learned that things that grow out of a flower and have seeds are fruits. Then we were surprised to know that even green beans and cucumber are fruit. After learning all about WHY, they understood it so well!

We tried three different types of tomatoes - green, orange, and the regular red, around our teepee fire while talking about growing crops and cultivation and farming back in those days.
After a vote and graphing it, we learned that the order of preference was for the green tomato, then red and last orange. For some friends the green was sour, thus yummy, but the red and orange tasted very similar :)

In the month of August, friends will be working every week with names, days of the week, and we will be revisiting the introduction to preschool. With new friends coming in, our old friends are always charged up to be the leaders and show their best guidance skills.

Keep seeing you around!

Hugs,
Teacher Rashida
