Taking Trixie home

Our class pet, Trixie the mouse, needs a home every weekend when the school heating and air conditioning are turned off. Teachers have been taking her home, but if any Purple Room families would like to take turns taking Trixie home for the weekend, you can!

Teacher Janet will make sure Trixie's cage is clean and that she has enough food and water for the weekend. There's nothing you have to do besides enjoy her company.

Trixie needs the room temperature to be between 65-80 degrees. If your house gets colder than that at night, there is a heating pad you can take with you when you pick her up on Friday.

If you want to, you can take the yellow plastic ball as well so she can run around the house for short times. Please do this ONLY if you have a safe space for her to go. Stairs, dogs, younger siblings, etc. are big dangers while Trixie is in her ball! Please also make sure to Scotch tape the lid in place once she is in the ball so it doesn't fall open by accident.

If you pick Trixie up to hold her or put her in the ball, please scoop around her with two hands. Whatever you do, do NOT pull her tail! (I know they do it that way in the movies, like Scar dangling the mouse by its tail in The Lion King, but this can seriously injure Trixie.) FYI, she will poop and may pee as you hold her, so you'll want a towel on your lap. She is VERY fast, so please constantly hold her and watch her if she is out of the cage. If you don't want to take her out of the cage, you don't have to. She's fun to just watch and talk to!
